I haven’t had much time for photography the last 9 or so days. Patrick (my husband) injured his back and I had to take over the majority of his household and other duties as well as take care of him down to the smallest details, like helping him get up and down in a chair. The experience was eye opening for me. You never realize entirely just how much someone does or how valuable they are until something like this happens. The first 3 days were wall to wall labor for me, no rest for the wicked. I felt like I must be very, very wicked on those days.
Once Pat was able to hobble around a little on his own things eased up a bit, but it was still exhausting. Today things are better, though we’ve still not returned to normalcy yet. He can’t lift anything heavier then a half gallon of milk, which means the snow shoveling, wood hauling, fire building, all the manual labor that requires lifting is still up to me. But at least he’s walking and driving a little now. And he can stand long enough to cook himself a little something once in a while.
Now I have lots of catch up work to do, but I thank God for giving us both the strength to get through this, that he is healing, and that it happened during the slow season for my work.
